A Shalom Christian Academy student earned special honors early this month in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Monica Miller, a senior at Shalom, earned Commended Student status and received a letter of commendation from Shalom Principal Patty Flood.
Commended Students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2012 competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. About 34,000 students throughout the nation earned Commended Student status. Students who earn the honor do not continue in the 2012 competition.
Wilson adjunct professor featured: A Wilson College adjunct professor was featured in a "Humanities on the Road" program with the Pennsylvania Cable Network and the Pennsylvania Humanities Council.
The episode first aired at 6 p.m. Friday on PCN.
Nancy Walker and Jef Savage were featured in the segment "May I Have the Pleasure of this Dance?" It focused on social dances spanning from the presidencies of James Buchanan to Teddy Roosevelt with performances by Walker and Savage in period clothing.
Walker is currently an adjunct professor of dance at Wilson College as well as an adjunct professor of dance history at Gettysburg College. Savage assists Walker as an instructor for the adult enrichment ballroom classes at Wilson.
Art exhibit: The Museum of Temporary Art at Penn State Mont Alto will host an exhibit by artist Annie Byrne
The exhibit consists of acrylic and fabric pieces and is located in the Academic Support Center on the first floor of the General Studies Building.
Byrne is a local artist from Gettysburg. She has taught children's art lessons privately and in schools.
Byrne has worked for the last three years with the Adams County Heritage Festival, planning children's activities centered on artistic expressions of various cultures.
