A little rain might fall early on Thanksgiving Day, but it shouldn't be enough to spoil the holiday dinner, Black Friday spending sprees or outdoor play over the weekend.
"No big storm. No big rain. No big wind," said Steve Anderson, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Monterey. "This is average for November."
Then again, some people forget. Some of them surely will leave late for Thanksgiving dinner and drive too fast on slick roads.
But the amount of light rain Anderson was talking about--only one-tenth of an inch--shouldn't ruin the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot run in San Jose or family gatherings.
The center of the small Alaskan cold front crossing the Bay Area should pass over the region before the last slice of pumpkin pie disappears or the final football game on television ends.
The Weather Service's forecast for Thanksgiving Day was virtually identical for the region from Mountain View south to San Jose and Gilroy and then north to Oakland and Walnut Creek: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy. Highs in the upper 50s.
Thursday night will be cool, with lows in the 40s and winds of 5 mph, but that's average for late-November nights, too.
