The Ohio State Buckeyes are still suffering through the controversy that former coach Jim Tressel left behind . While it wasn't necessarily the fault of Tressel that the NCAA came down so harshly on the football program, he certainly didn't help matters. The violations that included cash and tattoos given to players by a tattoo parlor will probably lead to future NCAA penalties, and the school will need a coach at the helm that can lead the team through it all.

 

There is a lot of debate about whether Ohio State has even offered Meyer a contract, and he released a statement that said he had no dea l as of Thanksgiving Day. If the school gets a chance to sign Meyer though, and he is receptive to a deal, then Ohio State really needs to make sure that it gets done. That Meyer would even have interest in coaching at a school that could possibly face postseason ban is a good thing for OSU , and that someone of his stature is getting linked to the job helps the school even more.

 

Meyer is the big-name coach that could really help out the Buckeyes, and he is the type of recruiter that a large school like Ohio State would benefit from having. He led the University of Florida to national titles in both 2006 and 2008, and with the help of Tim Tebow made the Gators a powerhouse in the SEC. He walked away from coaching to take care of health concerns, but could probably get lured back to the sidelines with the right deal.

 

If you follow any major sports site, you have certainly seen the disparaging comments that litter any article about Ohio State University. The public perception is still a very negative one of Ohio State, and bringing in a respected coach like Meyer could go a long ways toward changing all that. That doesn't even tough upon how much college football analysts love Meyer and would enjoy cheering him on from the press box once again.

 

What Ohio State needs is a good coach that can help the school emerge from the likely NCAA sanctions. Meyer is that man, he has proved himself as a winner multiple times and now he could help make Ohio State a respectable and competitive team in the Big Ten once again.
